In the Spring of 2007, singles from around the
country flocked to destinations across the U.S. and around the world
during the annual vacation ritual known as Spring Break. TRUE.com(R), the
leading scientifically based online dating site, surveyed its members to
learn whether singles would rather meet a lifetime partner or just a spring
fling during Spring Break 2007.
What TRUECOM found was fascinating:
* 30 percent of respondents wanted a spring fling
* 29 percent chose casual dating
* 24 percent wanted a long-term relationship
* 16 percent wanted to find just a friend
* 2 percent wanted to find someone to marry
"Dating is all about where you are in your life," said Fite,
TRUE's
relationship expert and profile coach. "I think that many people make the
assumption that because someone joins a dating site, they're ready to
settle down. But we know that many of our members are in a stage of their
lives where they simply want to date around and explore relationships with
other singles."
Despite their expectations, an overwhelming majority of singles (86
percent) were open to dating someone long-term after meeting them during
Spring Break.
"The survey really shows that singles are managing their expectations,
but staying open to the possibility of meeting someone special," said Fite.
"Spring Break is definitely known as a great time to meet new people. If
you do plan to date someone long-term after meeting them during Spring
Break, the hard part begins when you return to your normal lives."
Coach Fite offers the following tips for singles looking to meet
someone over Spring Break - she says it's all about the first impression.
- Show Your School Spirit - Wear a shirt or hat that shows off your school pride. You never know
when a fellow Texas Longhorn, UCLA Bruin, Michigan Wolverine or
Tennessee Vol is in the crowd and ready to strike up a conversation
with a classmate.
- Make a Memory - Make sure your Spring Break is full of picture-worthy moments, and as
you snap photos with your new friends offer to send them after the
trip. This is a great way to stay in touch post-Spring Break. Plus,
you'll have lots of new photos for your online dating profile.
- Venture Outside Your Circle - If you do use an online dating service then search for people who live
at your vacation destination. It's a perfect time to meet up with
someone in another town for a date.
- Preferred Seating - Whether you are traveling by plane, train or bus this Spring Break,
take advantage of open seating to make new friends. Grab the seat
next to that cutie and strike up a conversation.
- Life Lessons - Ask your Spring Break crush to give you extra snorkeling lessons, or
to take you scuba diving. Now is the time to learn something and that
guy or girl you have your eye on will love being the one to show you
the way around your Spring Break adventure.
The survey also revealed where the best places are for meeting other
singles during Spring Break:
* 36 percent of respondents plan to go to a beach or lake destination
* 30 percent of respondents are staying home
* 21 percent plan to take a road trip
* 10 percent are going to a non-beach destination
* 4 percent are going skiing
"Spring is all about change and therefore it's a great time to take the
next step in your love life," said founder and CEO of TRUE, Herb Vest.
"Depending on where you are in your life, you should always be open to
meeting a new best friend, someone you date casually or your one true
love."
